American Dream

Casting Crowns is one of my FAVORITE Christian bands! Today I am quickly reminded of this one song I absolutely love! Today my emphasis is all about not chasing the almighty dollar. About pouring yourself into what truly matters. About focus. About priorities.

Why are we never satisfied with what we have? Why do we always want more? Why is it that we never have enough? Why are we never happy?

This song starts out about a little boy who JUST wants his dad…time…not a new toy, a new video game….time. But the dad says “Not this time son, there’s no time to waste….maybe tomorrow we will have time to play”…then he slips into his new BMW and drives away. Did you catch a very important word there? He said there is no time to WASTE. I don’t know about you but I don’t think spending quality time with family is a “waste”…

It goes on to show how he continues to chase the American Dream… Works all day and tries to sleep at night….but can’t. He’s building his “castle” on sand….the wind and waves come crashing in….how long will his “castle” stand? Probably not long.

Back to his son… “Daddy can you please come to my game?” His wife says “Baby please don’t work late…” But he wastes yet another weekend…. Once it’s gone it’s gone. But he tells them…just wait, things will get better I just need a little more time. Some people never learn.

It then says that whoever dies with the most toys wins, but if he loses his soul what has he gained in the end? Last time I checked you don’t get to take your “toys” with you. But what you CAN do is leave a lasting legacy behind with your family. Create moments today that will stick with your family forever. Make memories and create traditions that will be passed down from generation to generation.

Now back to the man who was working sooooo hard….he is still going to sleep at night, lying awake wondering when things will get better…. But it looks like he’s running out of time. 🎶cause he worked and he built with his own two hands and he poured all he had in a castle made with sand, but the wind and the waves are coming crashing in, time will tell just how long his kingdom stands…🎶 as for me, I’d take a shack on a rock over a castle in the sand anyday.

All they ever wanted was …..him
